Rubbing the remnants of sleep from her eyes, she stretches slightly, realising that she hasn't slept this well in weeks. After ensuring Victoria has settled in the guest room, I close the door gently behind me, leaving her to find some peace in her newfound safe space. Returning to the lounge area, I pour myself my favourite drink, the liquid amber catching the soft light filtering through the room.
At the large bay window, I draw the curtains closed, shutting out the fading light of the evening and the prying ....
